Erosion of sand screens by solid particles: a review of experimental investigations

Abstract In oil and gas industry, sand can be carried with gas, when producing from unconsolidated sandstone reservoirs. The existence of particles fluids flow lead to severe damages production system’s components. Therefore, control techniques are needed prevent potential damages. Standalone screens (SAS) widely used because they provide reliable low cost complexity. However, SAS application become disadvantageous mechanical erosion due particle impingement. experimental investigation is challenging, as the measurements out for a representative material geometry at laboratory-scale simulated conditions. conditions should mimic real conditions, which involve many interrelated parameters. Some these parameters related entrained (i.e., shape, size and, concentration) while other characteristics velocity fluid properties). this review, key factors influencing described, mechanisms highlighted. addition, results showing effects on discussed evaluated.
